A great way to get children to talk is by giving them a phone. This resource goes brilliantly with a phone – so as well as getting children to talk, this one encourages them to recognise numbers and write messages. The resource consists of three posters, with different characters and their numbers, along with a message template. I suggest that when using this in continuous provision you place a play phone or a phone that no longer works to encourage them to be creative with their messages. Maybe get another child to pretend to phone them and leave a message.

For children learning the phase 2 tricky words this product is ideal. Children colour the tricky words the same as the coloured words at the top. It is good to encourage children to say the word they have found whilst colouring it so it is embedded.

Children love to be independent, especially when it comes to making their own sandwich. After making a jam sandwich with your children, why not get them to write instructions, and order the sequence for others to make a jam sandwich?
